A day well spent in Mykonos Town
The morning of Day 1 we mostly spent checking into our hotel, the Myconian Ambassador, after our flight in from Athens. After some unpacking, we walked to Platys Gialos Beach which was a few blocks away. We had lunch of octopus and calamari at one of the vendors facing the beach front, but had a bit of an unpleasant experience. I really recommend checking some reviews on Tripadvisor before sitting down for your meal. We then walked to the end of the beach to catch a bus into Mykonos Town. The buses run about every half hour, but is only a short 10 minute ride into town. We spent the rest of the afternoon (deep into the night) exploring Mykonos Town. It seems small, but every turn we took brought us into a different street or alleyway, so it was really a lot of fun discovering new shops, restaurants, and landmarks. Some notable places to visit in the area: Mykonos Agricultural Museum, Mykonos Folk Museum, Windmills of Mykonos, Alefkandra (Little Venice), and Paraportiani Church to watch the sunset.

After sleeping in and then spending the early afternoon napping after breakfast, we spent the rest of Day 2 at Psarou Beach. We took a shortcut to the beach (which meant walking on a narrow road on a cliff – it was really quite frightening!). The beach itself was quiet and was nice to eat a late laid back lunch and enjoy the warmth of the day.

Our 3rd day consisted of renting a smart car and exploring a few of the beaches on the island. We started at Agios Sostis, which turned out to be our favorite. We were glad we spent the majority of our time there. I really highly recommend checking out Kiki's Tavern nearby for the most wonderful meal overlooking a mini beach. Everything was so fresh and cooked so simply in a stone grill, but it was truly divine. We had to wait for an hour though so go early! They provided rosé on the house so that was nice. We then drove to Kalafati Beach, Kali Livadi Beach, and Elia Beach, which were all very beautiful in their own way. Elia was the beach with the softest sand. The last two we visited were Super Paradise and Paradise Beach, and those were legit party beaches. I think it would be awesome to come with a group of friends, but for us at the moment, it was a bit too crazy. We ended the evening having drinks at Bill & Coo with their gorgeous infinity pool and getting dinner back in Mykonos Town. For the beaches, I think bringing water shoes would be great as a lot of them are a bit on the rocky side.

Mykonos was a really beautiful island with much to explore, and it didn't feel so big that it was too overwhelming to cover in a few days. People regard it has a party island, but as long you spend your time at the more secluded beaches and exploring all the different sections of Mykonos Town, it makes for a really relaxing vacation. I'll miss all the ice-cube shaped buildings, but until then! Santorini Diary is up next. :)
